The city's traders are enraged following the cutting of the challans of two-wheelers parked on the side of the road. On 9th September 2021, angry businessmen blocked the Hamirpur-Sujanpur highway after cutting the challan at Hamirpur's Gandhi Chowk. Police challaned a person whose scooter was parked on the side, this attracted immediate public reaction and the situation became heated. Police could have avoided issuing the challan because the motorbike was not obstructing traffic.
Finally, when Sub Inspector Pal Singh Chandel, the traffic police officer in charge, vowed to work with the traders, vehicular traffic on the highway resumed.
In Hamirpur city, the police have been indiscriminately cutting challans for the last month. As a result, the city's businesspeople are suffering greatly. According to shopkeepers, a person who purchases products worth Rs 100 is compelled to obtain a challan for up to Rs 1500, which would not be accepted under any circumstances.
Vyapar Mandal President Anil Soni, Chairman Vipin Sharma, Vice President Ashwani Jagota, Sumit Thakur, and Manish Soni stated that the district headquarters processes the highest volume of customer challans daily. Which has a direct effect on the traders' businesses.
The business has already suffered significant losses as a result of Corona; now, additional losses are being borne due to the police dictatorship. The business board has urged the state government and police administration to take appropriate action in this case.
